Services
The Circulation Department is located on the fifth floor of the Library Learning Center (LLC). This is where patrons may:
Register for library access.
Borrow, renew [link to Renewals] and return materials.
Find and use Reserve Books.
Who can borrow?
Students who are currently enrolled and cleared with the Bursar, faculty who are currently teaching, and LIU employees may borrow from the Brooklyn Campus Library. LIU alumni may also borrow with their alumni cards. Students from schools participating in the Academic Libraries of Brooklyn (ALB) consortium also have borrowing privileges.
Loan Period
You must present your registered LIU ID card in order to check out books and videos.
Your loan period is determined by what your status with the university is:
Students and alumni
Books: 28 days
Videos: 7 days
Faculty and staff
Books: 120 days
Videos: 7 days
ALB card holders
Books: 14 days
Videos: on-site access
Loan periods may be shortened to the end of the semester in which the item is checked out. Students may have up to 25 books checked out at any time. Staff may have up to 40 books, Alumni may have five, and ALB cardholders may have two. Only three circulating videos may be taken out at a time by any borrower type.
The due date will be stamped inside the cover of every item you check out. It is your responsibility to make sure that all items are returned or renewed on or before their due dates. An overdue item begins to accrue fines the day after its due date. For more information, see Fines and Fees [link to Fines_and_Fees]
All library materials must be returned to the same desk where they were checked out. The library is not responsible for fines or charges that may occur if books are returned to the wrong location.
