New LIU ID Card and the Library

LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

LIU’s New University ID Card and the Library

What's Different:

Off-campus access for databases etc.: The way for LIU students, faculty and staff to access online databases and e-resources has changed. The new authentication method replaces the old library patron barcode. LIU library users are now able to login with their LIU email login to access the Libraries' online resources.

Checking library materials in and out: With the launch of the new University ID, the library barcode will be eliminated for LIU students, faculty and staff and replaced by a University ID. (Patron barcodes will remain in use for a small group of library users who are non-LIU personnel and have no University ID).  All users need is their new University ID.

Staying the Same:

On-campus access to the Libraries' online databases and e-resources is not affected and requires no additional authentication.

Item barcodes, used for books and media, will still be used to check those materials out.

FAQs:

What do I do if my email login doesn't work when I try to access Libraries' online resources?

If you have an LIU University ID, please contact the Circulation Department of your campus library to create or update your library account with your University ID.

How do I find my University ID? Is it printed on my ID card?

Your University ID is electronically embedded in your new University ID card. It is not printed on the new LIU ID card.

With my new University ID card, do I still need to stop by the Library Circulation Desk to get a barcode?

No, as a student/faculty/staff/administrator, you don't need to get a barcode anymore. You need to present your new University ID at the Library Circulation Desk when you check out print or media materials.

Do I have a University ID if I am a student? What do I do if I don’t have a University ID?

As a registered student, you will be given a University ID. If you don't have a University ID, please visit the Center for Student Information (CSI) Office in Brooklyn (LLC 302) and the Public Safety Office at Post.

I am an LIU student. Where can I find my University ID?

As a registered student, you will be able to locate your University ID via your MyLIU account.  But remember, your University ID is electronically embedded in your new University ID card. It is not printed on the new LIU ID card.

I am faculty/staff/administrator. Where is my University ID?

Your University ID is electronically embedded in your University ID card. If you don't know your ID, as an LIU employee, you will be able to locate your University ID on your paystub, via your ERP account or from your department.

Do I need to memorize my University ID number?
