Diagnostic Medical Sonography

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program at Long Island University is one of only a few bachelor’s degree programs in the country that integrates general ultrasound and adult echocardiography.

Our mission is to instill in our students the desire to be leaders in the profession, advocates of ethical humanism, and lifelong learners who hold in high esteem meaningful work and have an engaged commitment to the profession. Students enrich their learning with clinical experience throughout their time in the program. Classes are small in size, encouraging substantial faculty-student interaction and classroom participation.

DMS students are eligible to sit for the national credentialing examinations in Adult Echocardiography, Abdominal Sonography and OB/GYN Sonography along with the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) examination prior to completing their degree, and therefore, can be credentialed by the time of graduation. This makes LIU DMS students particularly attractive to potential employers.

The Long Island University Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

For more information about the program, visit the DMS Program website.
